StevenBe Legendary, The Best of StevenBe
Steven Berg is a fiber artisan that is armed with a wealth of experience, a daring sense of style, and a firm belief in the transformative power of creativity that knitting or crocheting offers to all who are brave enough to push the boundaries. Berg began his career early as a young boy, furiously knitting lines of sequin dresses for a discerning clientele of Barbies in Wisconsin. This naturally led him to become a star student in fashion design at both Parsons and the Fashion Institute of Technology. Following graduation, Berg found inspiration in the beautiful, fashion capitals of the world for many years, as a VP of design at Perry Ellis. His creative work experiences brought him back to his favorite medium again, the one that always inspired him the most, the imaginative world of fiber arts. In a 6,000 square foot, 1800’s restored Firehouse, among a treasure trove of objects devoted to the fiber arts; this is where you will find Steven today. Encouraging his knit-crochet-fiber loving friends to push the limits, hosting a party at his eclectic store and always pouring out his latest designs. Steven’s knitwear designs of ‘chunky funky’ creations have caught the attention of Hollywood celebrities and stylists. Steven reminds all fiber aficionados: ‘The possibilities are endless.’ ‘There are no mistakes, only variations.’
Experience the magic of mixology with the King of Fiber Fusion himself! Learn the amazing effects created by taking a variety of yarns from different brands, weights, and fiber contents to create magical and unique garments and elaborate accessories. You will never look at a pattern the same way again!
This workshop is for both knit and crochet!
What to bring:
• An open mind.
• A notebook and pen or pencil for taking copious notes.
• 5 to 7 yarns in a variety of colors, including a fingering weight and a lace weight each in different fibers like mohair and silk to be combined into a heavier weight.
• Note: Choose a color palette that is cohesive but include one color you wouldn’t normally use. More yarns can be added during class. Yarns should be chosen and wound prior to class.
• A variety of needle sizes from US 6 to US 10 will be needed so bring a good selection (we recommend an interchangeable set).
• Preferred notions including: stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, and scissors.
• A work-in-progress or finished project for show and tell (the desire to be admired is not required - but it is recommended!)
